有時, 欣賞Yes 的歌曲是樂事一件 ; 要了解它在唱什麼卻是苦事一樁
And You and I 就是這樣的一首歌
"And You and I"收錄於 Yes 1972 的經典專輯「Close to the edge」 此專輯僅有兩首歌曲 Close To the Edge 和 And You and I .兩首10多分鐘的歌曲 這是當時搖滾唱片的創舉(大概也是所有唱片的創舉)
這張唱片可謂是Yes 最著名 為人津津樂道 回味無窮的經典名作 其詞曲充滿空靈禪機 音符雀躍奔放
因為就如我所介紹過的 Yes的音樂是獨一無二的 前無古人 後無來者 他們的音樂型態大概只有他們自己能玩 - Genesis ,KingCrimson 這類開創性的樂團有許多徒子徒孫 但師承Yes的樂團沒有 - 至少我還沒看到
我聽Close To the Edge了這麼幾十年 永遠不覺得這專輯是老歌 它的跳躍思維的結構和美麗清新的旋律 放在2008年的電子搖滾充次的今天 仍是站在時代的前端
何以Yes的歌曲像打了低溫氮一樣 30年後 或者 100年後拆封 它還是新瑩剔透 顆粒鮮明
我打個比喻 如果寫Rock就像寫文章的話 大部分的搖滾歌曲就像部落格 寫在設計不同的的模組 雖然內容不同 概看起來還是不脫框架 ; 然而原創性的前衛搖滾樂團就跳出框框了...... , 像 Pink Floyd 此類的樂團就像在寫小說 Genesis 之類的樂團就像舞台劇本 Kingcrimson就像火星文雜記漫談實驗手抄 .......然而他們的作品還是脫離不了時代的刻記 你任何時候看還是可以從樂風型態 , 詞曲的用字遣辭可以嗅出作品的年代背景 ; 但Yes就不同了 其作品就像新詩 句句玄妙 字字珠璣 許多美麗文字兜在一起 看起來新穎豐富 每個字都認識 仔細看又似懂非懂 有各種可能的解釋 或毫無頭緒 最特別的是Yes的歌曲旋律超俗不帶濃密感情(如Pink Floyd 的感情就黏得像就麥芽糖) 也因為如此 Yes 就像百年後被意外挖掘出來的抒發玄學哲理觀的新詩札記 後人無法字裡行間推斷這是什麼年代所寫的作品 -- .... 就這個意思
介紹 And You and I 有點讓我汗顏 我喜歡這首歌 從70年代到21世紀 但卻從未費心去了解他在唱什麼 因為歌詞看3遍不懂 就丟一邊了 一丟是幾十年 , 如我所談過 我認為聽搖滾就跟聽義大利歌劇一樣 大多數的人聽歌劇也只是知道它大概在演什麼 少人能懂每首歌每句話的意思 本來歌曲最重要的是來欣賞旋律的 旋律本身就是一個故事了 能Enjoy其中有自己的想像畫面是最重要的 - The Wall 電影沒出來之前 我們也是聽得很感動啊
不過 個人欣賞是一回事 在專欄介紹了歌曲一大篇 卻不略談歌曲內容 也說不過去 -
在多方求教無門之後 我努力花了幾個晚上 將歌詞一個字一個字翻譯 接起來 按大陸愛用的口語 - "給一個說法"
我不會認為我是非常正確的 新詩本來就有多種解釋 何況是談禪機哲理的新詩

卻不知真正的得道之途在正心清心「我心彼佛心 ,佛在我心中」 反求自我 反璞歸真 最終「我即是佛,佛即是我」 達圓滿境地.

於是說人類不能再依賴科學和宗教 , 而必須開始自省生命之圓滿應來自何處?

Yes的成員在早期都是素食主義者,主唱Jon Anderson 喜好東方禪學和佛教
在close to edge 後Yes再發行兩張一套的 大量參入東方禪意的大型概念專輯「 Tales from Topographic Oceans 」
他也在2007發行的一首歌 「 The Boddha Song 」
「And you and I」是否是他自己修習東方宗教思想所引發的創作主題 不得而知
但其在歌曲中並未否定神的存在 但反對世人以宗教之名行事 卻違反「 神愛世人」 的神諭
當時70年代是以色列與阿拉伯世界鬥爭最厲害的時候 彼此恐怖攻擊 或 常發動報復戰爭 Jon Anderson應是對當時的混亂局勢有感而發
然而所有的戰爭都政治的延伸

我喜歡將這首歌當成情歌來聽 這樣這首歌放在的所有的情歌之中來比較 地位和意境中變成非常崇高 而非一首泛泛的宣揚人生哲理觀的創作
